Indoor Soccer Rules

FIFA rules apply with the following additions/exceptions:

1. Games are made up of 2, 25-minute halves with a 1-minute half time. Running clock, no stoppage of clock unless there is a serious injury. Referees are responsible for getting games started on time.

2. If the ball hits the side netting, it is out of play. The restart is a direct free kick for the opposing team between the hash line and the wall on the floor below where the ball hit the net.

3. If the ball hits the ceiling net, a direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team anywhere along one of the two white tri-lines (not the half line) closest to where the ball was kicked from.

4. Goal keepers will not be allowed to handle the ball from a back pass. Opposing team will be awarded a kick from the nearest white tri-line.

5. A 3-line violation occurs when the ball travels forward  over three tri-lines (the midfield and the two "zone" lines) without touching the floor, wall, a player or referee. This includes contact after the ball has crossed the line in the air.  The restart is a direct free kick for the opposing team from anywhere along the first white tri-line crossed by the ball.

6.  Players on the field during a league game must be on the team roster.  Penalty for non-rostered players is forfeiture of the game being played.  Exceptions must be cleared BEFORE the game begins with the Director of Coaches or Executive Director.  If 8 of your rostered players are present, then you may not add guest players, if you have 7 or less rostered players then you may add guest players to take you back up to 8. Rosters will be checked before games.  There is a $10 guest player fee per game.

7. Shootouts are awarded for serious physical fouls outside the penalty area for blue, yellow or red card offenses and intentional delay of game. In a shootout, a player of the fouled team dribbles starting from the center of the opponent's white tri-line, with all players, except the opposing goalie, behind this line. The player has 5 seconds to score. The goal keeper must start on the goal line but is not restricted in his/her movement.

8. NO slide tackling or sliding will be permitted.

9. NO offside rule is in effect.

10. No cleats allowed on the playing surface. Indoor shoes or flat soled shoes only.

11. Shin guards are required for everyone U-19 and under and are strongly recommended for all players. Goalkeepers U-19 and under are required to wear helmets.

12. Guaranteed substitutions (when the referee delays restart to allow for the substitution) may be made by both teams before a goal kick, kick off, after an injury (1 for 1), after a card (1 for 1), and must be completed in 15 seconds

13. A referee may send off any player fro a 2 or 5 minute 'penalty' for any flagrant, persistent or violent behavior deemed to be dangerous to the game, players or self.

14. No guaranteed substitutions are allowed during the last two minutes of play.

15. On the fly substitutions may be made by either team at any time. The substituted player must be within reach of the substitute box at his/her bench before another player may enter the field.  Violations will result in a direct kick from the offending team's box.

16. All free kicks are direct.

17. A handball is called when the player deliberately handles the ball. That means not ALL handballs will be called. We follow the "hand played the ball or the ball played the hand" method.

18. A player may not leave his/her feet to play the ball except to jump straight up for a header.

19. A player may not have two hands on the wall simultaneously while in control of or attempting to control the ball.

20. U8 plays with 4 players and a keeper and a size 3 futsal ball.

U9, U10 play with 6 players and a keeper and a size 3 futsal ball.

U12 play with 5 players and a keeper and a size 3 futsal ball.

U14 and up play with 5 players and a keeper with a size 5 regular soccer ball.

21. U8-12 play with low-bounce balls.

22. In youth play, a team seeing a deficit of 5 goals may add one planer to the normal allowed field participants.  Upon seeing a deficit of 7 points in score, the lead team must remove one player from the normal allowed field participants. In adult play, the discrepancy will be that the down team will add a player at a 5 goal differential (removing them if the score levels to a 4 goal differential) with no addition or removal of players thereafter.

23. The referees do have the right to hand out cards to players for various rules infractions.

Blue- sit out for 2 minutes

Yellow- sit out for 5 minutes

Red- out for the balance of the game.
