How Rankings Are Done

Teams are awarded points for wins and ties as follows:

            2 Points for a win

            1 Point for a tie

            0 Points for a loss

Ties are not broken until playoffs begin.  If the division does not have play-off games, ties are not broken until after the last game.  This means that if your team has the same number of points as another team during regular play, you are tied.  One team being listed ahead of another on the grid does NOT indicate that the team is ahead in the rankings.

Ties are broken using these rules in this order:

1)      Head to head play – If, during regular play, the tied teams played each other, the team who won that game is ranked ahead of the team that lost.

2)      Goals scored against – If, after head to head, the teams are still tied, all goals scored against the tied teams during regular play are tallied.  The team with the least goals scored against them is ranked higher.

3)      Score spread – If the teams are still tied after tallying goals scored against, the goal spread will be tallied in the following manner.  The winning team will be credited with the difference between their score and the opposing team up to five goals.  For example, if the score was 10-8, the winning team is credited with 2 goals.  If the score was 12-2, the winning team is credited with 5 goals.  In no case, will the winning team ever be credited with more than 5 goals.

4)      If the teams are still tied after going through steps 1-3, IT’S A TIE!!
